With approval from the Great Santaclausian Izzo's sister Joyce Asamoah, based in the United Kingdom, we deeply regret to announce the death of  Samuel "Izzo" Osei Williams -  Jubilee House 1970-1977 (75 Year Group)

Funeral service was held December 26, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Roy Davis Funeral Home Chapel (481 Bramlett Way  Powder Springs, Ga. 30127) with Rev. Michael Crawford officiating.

Mr. Samuel Osei Williams, age 54 of Powder Springs, died Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Regina Williams; son, Michael Williams of Powder Springs; daughter, Denise Williams of Powder Springs; mother, Rose Arthur of Ghana; brothers, Osei TuTu of Ghana, Emmanuel Asamoah of NJ; sisters, Grace Osei TuTu of Boston, Mary Asirifi of Ghana, Elizabeth Asamoah of Ghana, Joyce Asamoah of UK.

Izzo was very popular during his Adisco days especially during track and field events (Inter-Co) where he brought so much joy to Santaclausians and generally all of Cape Coast because of his speed in the sprint events.   Inter- House competitions were no exception when it came to the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay races. There was always some action between Izzo, Sasta and Travis (Izzo's brother who was in Quaque House).

In 1976 Adisco won the Cape Coast champions with a team (see below) that beat Kwabotwe as they celebrated their centenary and had vowed to beat Adisco because it was their centenary year....That year Santaclausians matched to the fields of Kwabotwe and made sure they ate their words...prominent among the team were Izzo and Travis....it was a great achievement! These guys made Adisco proud. Indeed we have lost a great Santaclusian.....

May He Rest in Perfect Peace

1976 Adisco Track and Field Team
1976 Cape Coast Champions from Adisadel College. The picture shows Izzo and among others his brother Travis and other stars like Sasta, Rosa (of blessed memory),  Gorman, Tommy Smith, White Apple and Rawlins. This group of athletes was indeed one of the finest in the sporting history of Adisco! The above picture is from the library of Dr. Bernard "Brother Chu" Rawlins (#23) who happens to be the "Latest  Profile" on this website.  This picture was taken by the one and only Phobia (official photographer on the Hill) .

One athlete missing in the photo is John Attiogbe Atayi aka John John...his comments..."I was part of the team but I missed out on the photo because I went to HOLY that day".

#10 Nakai Nettey was the Team Manager.

#12 Attafuah aka Tosoo came to Adisco (mid-stream) from the USA.

#20 Sampson aka Pee Wee came to Adisco for his 6th Form. He brought the jama song "libilibi hey, libilibi hey" with chorus "wapioo.... wapi kele wa"

#24 G.A. Frempong aka Fire is the only guy to have won 2 raffles (back-toback). His prize for one raffle - 2 boxes of 12-pack Kellogs Cornflakes.

Tribute by
Kojo Acquaah-Harrison
Friend in Jubilee House, 1976 Year Group - Jubilee House Prefect 1978

In September 1970, a phenomenon in the form of the Asamoah brothers, Samuel and Travis; the junior of the two, entered the gates of Adisadel College in Cape Coast Ghana. This in itself was not too unusual, as there were other brothers in the school, which had a great tradition of family members being students and old boys. The phenomenon here, was that throughout their stay for seven years, these brothers competed in many areas and successfully achieved similar feats. I need to list some of these for the real impact of their greatness to be understood.

  • They were both very friendly and likeable characters.
  • They were both studious.
  • They both had a following.
  • They were both popular with the ladies.
  • They were both athletes, who run the 100 and 200 metre events, amongst others, for the school.
  • They both became school prefects.
Through all this competition, they remained good brothers.

In the first week of his first year, Samuel was chosen to be the fag (aide de camp) of the Protocol prefect. This was a job he took seriously and was something that helped him to undertake future responsibilities in his stride. His friendly character endeared him to seniors, class mates and juniors.

Izzo always made light of things, but inside, he was a very serious guy. He was an all-rounder, a guy who was a “Jack of all trades”, but in his case, he was a master of some of those trades too. He joined the school track and field team as a junior boy, but really excelled in his senior years, 4, 5, lower and upper sixth forms.

He was a sharp dresser and always felt the need to look cool, even in his khaki shorts and blue cotton shirt school uniform. If there was a way of jazzing up the basic uniform, Izzo would find it. He then set a trend for many of us to follow.

Izzo’s main claim to fame was undoubtedly in the sports arena. He was a king in Cape Coast and it is not an exaggeration to say that everyone knew of him. Indeed I was with a friend who attended Mfantsipim School (our bitter rivals) when I heard the sad news about his death and, to see the pain on my friends face, whilst he listed a series of great moments Izzo had given us all in Cape Coast in the 1970s, told a story of its own.

I can only say that the members of Izzo’s family, wife, children, brothers and sisters should be proud to have been close to a great Santaclausian, who will never be forgotten by thousands of other Santaclausians, who were privileged to have been touched by his life and services to Adisco.

Izzo, we salute you and pray that you rest in peace with other great Santaclausians gone before you.

To Regina, Michael and Denise. To the Asamoah brothers, sisters and family, we share in your pain.
