AOBA - Road to 2010

Message from the US Centenary Planning Team

Greetings Fellow Santaclausians,

This message is to galvanize and organize those of us in the US to expeditiously meet our obligation to THE SCHOOL passed on by those who labored before us and for which we bask and share in their glory, because we have pledged to do exploits and add to their fame.

As we approach our centenary, 100 years of a remarkable journey, it is important to note the threshold we need to meet to do exploits and add to the fame of those who went before us. To put this in perspective is to note that Katanga was built to celebrate our 50th anniversary. After another 50 years, you would by no means acknowledge that the bar should be higher than what we accomplished 50 years ago.

We all do have fond memories of our beloved Adisadel College. From, ‘obey before complain’ to homos night to the final year students traditional ‘sei ho’. I actually even remember a senior punishing one of my mates to fill a bucket in Leopoldville with water from katanga using a teaspoon back and forth across the Katanga stairs. The experiences we had and shared on that hill still follow us for life irrespective of years of leaving the school. The great relationships we built across year groups, in our dorms, during apia way escapes, Adisco village tours at night and all the non and extracurricular things you did but most importantly how this school prepared us for academic excellence and life in particular. This we know we will forever cherish.

We in the US began this process with a high powered two-day meeting of Executives of the Adisadel Old Boys Association (AOBA), The Adisadel Foundation Board and Council of Advisors for AOBA. The purpose of this meeting was to find ways to:

  1. Build a strong and more active AOBA network across North America
  2. Galvanize support for our alma mater, in particular the Centenary Celebration

Decisions made included:

We should market/communicate and deliver on the service we are offering as, “being a family away from home”. This service should include; helping to transition Santaclausians settling in the US, provide support/presence during funerals, weddings, hospitalizations, outdoorings etc. and Networking. A committee was formed to work on this.  Members include:

Frank Indome, Kofi Osei, Kwabena Sarpong and Tajuh Abubakar and Chaired by Edward Quartey.

The Adisadel Foundation will need to radically increase our fundraising effort to benefit Adisadel College. This includes fundraising for the centenary center. A fundraising team for the Foundation includes:

Mark Aggrey, Kwabena Sarpong, Godfred Ottuteye, Bob Baafi, Alfred Essandoh, George Arthur, and Edwin Quartey

A US Centenary Planning Team was formed consisting of:

Francis Quartey, Frank Indome, J. Brookman Amissah, Albert Benyarku, Mark Aggrey, Alfred Essandoh, Dr. Kakra Hughes, George Arthur and Dr. Amoako Atta as Chairman

The US Centenary Planning Team has been charged amongst others to:

  • To obtain information from the Centenary Planning Team in Ghana about plans for the Centenary and in what ways if any the US alumni have been incorporated into the planning effort/logistics and how we can enable these plans come into fruition.
  • To coordinate efforts in the US to enable a successful Centenary celebration both in Ghana and the US
  • To Coordinate travel arrangements to Ghana and lodging for interested US alumni

So how do I get involved you may be asking?

  1. Stay close to your email for next steps and updates
  2. You can contact one of the names mentioned above to stay in the loop
  3. Start spreading the word and/ or forward this email to your year group and/ or old boys in your neighborhood and work place
  4. Start notifying your friends loved ones and enemies alike that you would be coming to them to support your beloved Adisadel College financially because we know they have all heard about your great alma mater
  5. Finally but not the least if you know of any potential institutional sources of funding for THE SCHOOL be it your company, Foundations or your personal resource please let us know
  6. Start putting your susu together because we will be calling upon you to contribute your widows might

As we all have sang in the past, still sing and will continue to sing, ‘……….ours is to do exploits and add to their fame’. Fellow Santaclausians, we need to make sure that those who come after us will have a story left by us for them to sing. YES WE CAN!!!!!

God bless,

Alfred Essandoh
